JD Sepia Hasselblad[dropcap]I[/dropcap] love every aspect of photography. My other interests are music, reading, kayaking and politics. Just try to get away from me when any of these interests arise in a conversation! Photographically – although immersed for many years in the digital world –  traditional film and printing techniques top the list. Even now, I find myself re-visiting my film roots for part of my artistic work. This will never fade and in fact I am shooting film at every opportunity. Yet new technology has an attraction that alerts one to other exciting techniques associated with the medium of photography. Now, with the digital SLR, PhotoShop, Aperture, Lightroom, Photomatix, NIK – all these have provided me with fantastic tools to create as never before. Even when scanning originals shot on film, many of these tools are used.

For the past 10 years I have shared my love of photography, as I have taught for Durham College’s Media Arts & Design, on a contract basis, since 2006. I have enjoyed teaching a variety of courses: from Introduction to Photography in film and darkroom, to Advanced Darkroom & Digital Photography. Recently I created and delivered a History of Photography course. While at Durham College, I have taught students enrolled in Pre-Media, Multi-Media, Advertising, Summer Shorts, FAD, the new Digital Photography programme, Dual Credit, Photography and Image Editing course to three classes of first year Advertising students.

While perusing some older negatives I came upon some images I shot years ago of Joni Mitchell. After seeing them, jonimitchell.com decided to put a number of these images on her site.

A couple of years ago I placed first in the 2013 Jazz in Motion Juried Photography Exhibition, sponsored by the Beaches International Jazz Festival. This really is a marriage of two of my passions: music and photography. There were many wonderful entries and I feel very fortunate to have placed first.

My interests in photography are artistic and contractual. When possible, I shoot people and the landscape: sometimes simultaneously. As well, I shoot corporate communications, portraits, weddings, events, and more… but my true love is artistic photography. Many of my images are sold at venues such as the Buckhorn Fine Arts Festival, Pelham Fine Arts Festival, The Distillery & Cobourg Waterfront Festival.
