A bit about me.

Through my lens, I see things differently.

And when you see things differently, that’s where the magic begins.

Passion

I love every aspect of photography. Immersed for many years in the digital world, even now I revisit my roots - film and printing - for part of my artistic work. This will never fade. My Fujifilm and Nikon cameras are constant companions, but I am still drawn to old friends, my medium format and 35mm film cameras. There is just something so tactile and visually pleasing about film.

While much of my traditional darkroom has been replaced by scanning, both unlock a secret that remains the real appeal. It’s the mysterious magic that is revealed once the negative is processed, the expressions of light and darkness, laughter and stillness, beauty and chaos.

The stories they tell. Moments before, during or after the storm. Memories. Firsts. Families. The history they hold. Snapshots of people, places and progress where time stands still. The emotions they evoke. Passion. Peace. Power. A sense of belonging or achievement.

New technology has a special attraction of its own, opening the door to new possibilities. Digital SLR and mirrorless cameras, Lightroom and PhotoShop, and Epson pigment printers have provided fantastic tools to create as never before, even with originals shot on film.

As a photographer, I am visually drawn to practically everything in the world around me – nature and architecture, cityscapes and landscapes, people and places, portraits and pets. While shooting on my own brings me pure joy, there is nothing more joyful than being part of special celebrations like events, weddings, births or family gatherings (when it is safe to do so).

Profession

After a successful career in the education sector, I shared my love for photography as a professor in the School of Media, Art and Design at Durham College. Based in the Toronto area, I continue to offer tutoring for small groups or individuals.
